In the glory years of the late 70s, Plackband built a rock-solid reputation as a live band, with memorable performances for VARA's Popcaravaan and Popkrant. Although a breakthrough with record companies failed to materialize due to their uncompromising dedication to their artistic vision, the band left an indelible impression. Their name? A playful reference to the taped sound system from their early days – a nod to their idiosyncratic character. After a break in the 80s, Plackband breathed new life into their legacy in 2000. The discovery of an old recording of their last performance in 1981 resulted in The Lost Tapes (2000), an album that captured the magic of their early years. With the albums After the Battle (2002) and the impressive live DVD/CD Visions (2006), recorded at De Boerderij in Zoetermeer, Plackband proved that their passion and craftsmanship were undiminished. Performances in England, Italy and Belgium followed, with which the band enchanted a new generation of prog rock fans. In 2008, part of the band continued as PBII, but the flame of Plackband continued to smoulder. During their 40th anniversary in 2017, the itch started again and in 2024 Plackband was back in almost its original line-up! With classics from The Lost Tapes and new fire, they promise to take their audience on a nostalgic, but still current journey through the world of symphonic rock. In the course of 2025, Plackband will release a mini-concept album about the mysterious murder of the Hague prostitute Blonde Dolly. The first single, Dolly's Blue Book, will be released on May 29. Live, the band remains true to its classics, with room for new music and surprising instrumental excursions. Plackband is more than a band; it is a timeless ode to creativity, perseverance and the power of live music. Don't miss your chance to experience these founders of Dutch prog rock live - a unique experience that will thrill both diehard fans and new listeners. |
